Union X
Cover bands can be a pretty polarizing
subject. To some people, they’re the best time
you can have with your clothes on; you get to hear your
favorite Nickelback songs and down shots of Jäger,
all within walking distance of your apartment. To others,
they’re a bunch of musical bottom-feeders who
should be exterminated like the little cockroaches they
are. To each his own. Whichever way you swing, multiply
that times 10, and that’s how you’re likely
to react to Union X, which is the closest thing the
area has to a cover band supergroup. Its pedigree includes
most of Central PA’s recognizable party bands,
including UPC, SomethingFluid, Smooth Like Clyde, Stomp’d,
Creamsicle and Instant Tranzmission. It’s hard
to estimate just how many hook-ups and hangovers these
guys have been responsible for over the years. Whatever
the number is, I’m sure it’s staggering.
And, judging by how quickly Union X has grown after
only six months on the live circuit, I’m sure
that number is only going to rise.

Dead Leaves
You may find yourself wondering "What
is this phenomenon known as Dead Leaves?" The music
is influenced by a number of artists, but the sound
is definitely all their own. Fueled by emotion and driven
by desire, each infectious song hits deep and engulfs
you in enigmatic melodies and haunting grooves. It's
a dreamscape of harmonies, melodies, passion and raw
power.
After some time off Dead Leaves have
and returned and make their Central PA debut on March
22nd at Dragonfly.

Until We Rise
The meaning behind the name Until We
Rise stems from the positive association of picking
yourself up and out of hard luck situations. Musically,
the band has veered away from the cliché of singing
about gloom and doom.“
Until We Rise debuted in March of 2007
and immediately won over their peers with their high
energized stage show proving that they have what it
takes to be a successful force in the Central Pa music
scene. The band also released a three song EP titled
“Trois Chansons” (French for “three
songs”) including the anthem “Only Human”
currently being spun on WQXA 105.7 the “X”
Under the Radar every Sunday night at 10:30pm.
Until We Rise won 2007's Best Rock/Pop
Band at the Central

Friction Broadcast
More addictive than a bag of Hershey
Kisses and more explosive than Three Mile Island, Friction
Broadcast is the biggest thing to come out of central
Pennsylvania since Bret Michael's hair. Band members
Anthony Lovari (vocals), Rick Johns (guitar), Fran Johns
(bass) and Casey Kraynak (drums) have brought their
diverse musical influences together to create a sound
both completely unique and broadly accessible. Inspired
by such artists as MUSE, Foo Fighters, Stone Temple
Pilots and Radiohead, Friction Broadcast's live performances
are known for their original songs and for covering
some of the group's favorite artists.
Friction Broadcast formed nearly three
years ago as Collateral after brothers Rick and Fran
Johns placed an ad in the local paper looking for a
drummer. Casey Kraynak answered the ad and was invited
to join the group after playing only one song with the
brothers. When talk of finding a vocalist began Casey
recommended Anthony Lovari, a friend for 14 years he
had performed with previously throughout high school.
Anthony showed up at the audition and the band had found
their voice.

Smooth
Like Clyde
Immediately after hitting the Central
Pennsylvania music scene in May of 2007, Smooth Like
Clyde was getting attention from major clubs all over
the state, and how could they not? With two experienced
and dynamic frontmen who know how to captivate an audience,
Shawn and Chris can cover anything from Rock to Pop,
Country to Old School Hip Hop, 80’s Hair Band
Anthems to R&B, Alternative to 70’s Funk…you
name it. This diversity makes Smooth Like Clyde the
most versatile band in Central Pennsylvania, allowing
them to tailor their shows towards the type of audience
they’re performing for.
But that’s just the beginning…Instrumentally
Smooth Like Clyde is unmatched by any other band in
the Central Pennsylvania market. On lead guitar, Scott
dishes out precise, groovy, funky licks that turn your
head and have your fist pumping in the air. And then
you have the backbone of the band, Kevin and Ross, who
pour out a rhythm section so smooth and tight it is
guaranteed to have your booty shakin’ and bouncin’
on the dance floor all night long.
So to sum it up, every Smooth Like
Clyde show is an amped up, all-out party from beginning
to end.

Covercharged
Covercharged is from the year 2176.
Sometime around 2025 all music was no longer formatted
on a physical medium. (cd's, blue ray, microchips, etc...)
Instead, music was only recorded, released, bought and
sold via the internet to be used on a person's mp7 player.
This worked well and people loved the fast and fun streaming
music that they received minutes after bands would finish
their albums. All was grand...

ready to rock the nation. Its back to the basics,
no pretensions no nothing, just straight forward
rock and roll. Joined by his compadres Red and
Josh they are ready to rock your town. The Lookies

about it! The Lookies have released a 5 song self

The Thrives
No one really knows who The Thrives
are. Some say theyre the remnants of a band called the
Flies, but local legend has it that the Flies were carried
off into the night by mysterious beings shortly after
an open mic night at the Appalachian Brewing Co. Some
say the Thrives are an offshoot of Lunar Shade, but
even a cursory look at the timeline would negate that
theory. Have you ever seen the Thrives in the same room
as Pavement? I have, so dont get your hopes up. I'm
glad to debunk that myth. And I wont even go into the
shares a drummer with A Utopian Skyline incidentthe
details are too brutal to repeat. But the mystery lies
in the men, not in the music. Its all rockets from the
get-go, explosive precision, like sweet engines. Whirlwind
and flash. Action and fury. The energetic precision
between the instruments and their handlers. David Kemper
writhes and squirms, recklessly blazing through songs,
alternately innocent and possessed. John Bolling is
a pillar on bass, his easy cool underscoring his innovative
and melodic lines. Bradley Stackpole is arms and legs
and hairthunderous and adventurous behind the kit. Ive
seen the enraptured audiences, the mouths agape, the
whirling rhythmic bodies, and the awe of fellow musicians.
Not a still soul in the room, constant movement, high
energy, vibrance! So we cant just stand therewe have
to throw up our hands and join in, scream, laugh, dance,
rejoice! This is the song! Now is now! So who are the
Thrives? It doesnt matter ...as long as they rock your
socks off. I SAID HUUH!

Emily's ToyBox
Add one part irreverent punk personality
(frontman extraordinaire, Mike Wise), one part maniacal
guitarist (Todd Sensenich), two parts dream rhythm section
(Matt Kyle and Wade Corbin) and what do you get? One
hell of a rock and roll ass-whoopin you wont soon forget!
Emilys ToyBox cannot (even remotely) be compared to
any other independent band on the east coast. In addition
to a genuinely unique and powerful stage presence, they
have sold more CDs and merchandise during their career
than any other independent band in the extended area.
However, unlike other bands making similar claims, this
band actually has the tax and sales records to prove
it. In 2001, Emilys ToyBox underwent an evolution of
sorts that morphed an already powerful regional act
into something unbelievably bigger and better. As a
four-piece band, Wise gained freedom to roam the stage
and audience at will, inciting a kind of enthusiasm
not far from mania that leaves the fans drenched, exhausted
and always coming back for more.

A Utopian Skyline
Four non-chalant looking fellows from
different towns of the Harrisburg, PA area, decided
one day that they would invent something new. Something
that would mix Tech-Rock rhythms with multi-structured
Progressive songwriting. Something that would sound
Huge and capture the intensity of the aforementioned
ideas. We call it Adventure-Rock. A New Breed of Modern
Experimental Rock. Keeping the Hooks. Forgetting the
Boundaries. We are A Utopian Skyline. Our Perfect View...

Brainwreck
Brainwreck started as a studio
colaboration between Vocalist Eric Ware and friend,
guitarist Kevin Wegman. Soon the two began writing
songs and put together a band first recruiting
drummer Jim Koonz from The DCB Band and Dave Piper
on rythm Guitar from Punching Candles. Later Eric
Trussell (formerly of rU21, UPC, Love Stomp and
now formerly of Torn In II) was brought on board
for bass duties. The band later released a 12
song original CD and are currently writing more
songs to compliment the 40+ covers they also play
and are in the process of trying to book for shows.

Elysion Fields
Elysion Fields was created
in 1992. The original thrash metal band took shape
at the hands of Craig Hickle and Paul Stuckey.
Craig picked up the bass guitar and assumed vocal
duties while Paul held down the drums. They set
out to establish a solid-sounding band, surging
with creativity; one that would not settle nor
compromise its originality.

Adrian Blitzer
In late 1999 Adrian Blitzer was formed, with
no aspirations at all… except to make good
music and share it with whoever will listen. Hundreds
of shows later, and 2 full length albums under
their belt, Adrian Blitzer had become one of Central
Pa's top local rock bands. In Aug. 2004 Adrian
Blitzer disbanded to attend to their families
and personal lives. Now, one year later, they're
back and ready to continue their work and reclaim
their throne. With songs that read like a modern
rock radio playlist, and a stage presence that
will draw any crowd in…Adrian Blitzer has
the diversity of covers and great originals to
please even the most finiky of listeners and show-goers.

April Skies
Formed in 1988 in Hershey, Pennsylvania,
the original incarnation of The April Skies drew
immediate comparisons to prominent alternative
rock bands of the time such as REM, The Cure,
and fellow Hershey residents and ex-Sire recording
artists The Ocean Blue. No
wonder. Singer and guitarist Jake Crawford and
his mates grew up awash in alt rock, and their
hometown counterparts were a major influence.
“They signed a record deal with Sire Records
way back in 1988, right when we were all getting
out of high school,” says Crawford. “Not
long after that, their first CD came out and they
were right there on MTV alongside The Smiths and
New Order. That made a lot of us think twice about
putting our guitars away and going off to college.”

Cyphilis
Thousands of fans in and around
the band’s Wilkes-Barre, PA hometown, and
thousands more throughout the world, have connected
with the band’s loud, aggressive style,
thanks to the internet and impressive live performances.
“Our live act is like a kick right in the
face. Period” Nick D suggests as an explanation
of their fans’ loyalty at pit after pit
filled show. “Our live show is to the point.”
adds Deuce. A Cyphilis performance is indeed tight,
powerful and purposeful – and their fans
do respond. The demonic vocals of Nick D combined
with Germ’s steely riffs, and the full,
driving rhythms laid out by Deuce and Feist is
a combination sure to incite the faithful. Word
of the band’s impressive performance has
spread and the band has enjoyed opening slots
for such legends as Kiss, Slayer, and Judas Priest.
The band’s third release Manifest (July
2005) is a solid 4 song EP which serves up a harder
more aggressive representation of what’s
to come... delivering more infectious riffs and
powerful vocals on “Grinderparts”,
“Trouble In The Eyes Of Our Maker”,
“Hell’s Half Acre” and the title
track. “You may not
like our name, but you will never forget it…
or us” quips Feist.
