The
Countdown Begins
As I write this, voting for the Music Awards is over. I’m
kinda glad too. Never did I expect to get over 10,000 votes.
That’s just insane. What really sucks is that most categories
are really close and just like last year, will need to be
recounted to make sure all the votes were counted. Only 3
categories have a true “run away” leader. Hopefully
next year I’ll find a full proof system and have a computer
count the votes instead of me.
Preparations for the
Music Awards Ceremony to be held Nov. 15th at Dragonfly,
are shaping up nicely. Should have most of the major details
locked in over the weekend. Thanks to everyone that have purchased
advance tickets to the show. I can’t stress enough to
get advance tickets to the show. Yes the Dragonfly is a bigger
venue, but our guest list will be larger as well. (Close to
200 peeps) So don’t be left in the cold, get your tickets
now. I challenge you to find a better event for only $5.00
in advance. Serving the Industry, Herbie, Deja Vudoo, Until
We Rise, The Lookies, Martini Bros. and the debut of Mega
Machine, for only $5.00 bucks? If you thought last year’s
event was a good time, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
I’m sure most of you know Anthrophobia, after 22 years,
is calling it quits on Nov. 24th. Frank has put together a
killer event at the Silo for the final show. I’ve known
Frank for most of the 8 years this website has been around.
If my Jager destroyed memory is correct, we first met at Fat
Daddy’s, during one of those Unsung Hero events. I was
there to see Wolfpac, but Anthro caught me ear. (Although
Wolfpac caught my eyes with their strippers on stage) Since
that time I’ve had the pleasure of working together
with Frank on several occasions. While most in this business
are the here today, gone tomorrow, sleaze bag types, Frank
is not. I think of all the shows we did, only 1 required a
contract. Frank, like myself is a man of his word. He has
nothing to prove and does what he does for the love of the
industry. He has done what most can only dream about accomplishing.
Frank is one of the few people I do respect in this business
and I appreciate the help he provided me in those early days.
I’m so glad I took his advise instead of everyone else’s
who I don’t even know were they are today.
I encourage everyone that can, to make the trip to Reading
for the final Anthrophobia show. Especially all you bands
that have gotten gigs because of Frank’s efforts.
Another person I respect is Robin Noll, publisher of PA Musician,
which celebrates 25 years on Nov. 9th at Gullifty’s.
In this cut throat world of the music business, Robin has
stayed the course. They have a business plan that works and
they stick to it. Through the years this website was responsible
for a lot of PA Musician bashing on the Message Boards. In
fact Rachael Rocks got a pretty harsh “welcome”
into the local scene courtesy of the Message Board last year.
I’m just glad that Robin has thick skin and understands
although it is my website, the Message Board is a clusterfuck
of opinions and like assholes every one has them. We don’t
run into each other as often as we used to in the past, but
it’s still a pleasure to talk to Robin. She always has
a smile on her face and loves to talk about the changing times
of the music scene.
Robin’s not the best at keeping up with today’s
technology to promote events, so I’ll be happy to help
her with this one. Check out our News Section on the Home
Page for more details on The PA Musician 25th Anniversary
Bash to be held at Gullifty’s on Nov. 9th. If your not
doing anything, stop out. I’ll be there.
OK that’s all for now folks. I’ll try to have
On My Mind updates posted more often. Things have been really
crazy around here lately, but I do see light at the end of
the tunnel.
