Transformation
to Nerdom
I’d like to start off by thanking everyone that took
time to come out to the Hardware Bar on May 29th for my last
show for a while. I really didn’t want to go, but felt
obligated to be there. Glad I did decide to go because it
was nice to chat with everyone and I appreciate everyone’s
concern. The loud music was getting to me and once again I
couldn’t hang for a whole night.
Had a meeting with the Hardware Bar manager and they are
going to continue the Tuesday Nights. I gave all my band info
and we booked June within a few minutes. So if you are in
a band and get a message from Stacey, it is legit. Click
here for the June Twisted Tuesday schedule. Do me a favor
when you meet Stacey, make sure you say “BigJim’s
right you are sexy”.
This year my goal was to get more new bands involved with
shows we do. Two bands I’d like to mention are Deja
Voodoo and Serving the Industry. Both of these bands have
a different sound and they work on getting people to a show.
I gave each of them an opportunity to prove themselves and
that they did. Each week I get so many emails from bands wanting
to be part of our concerts. It’s tough to make the call
on who get’s in and who is left out to dry. There’s
really no logic to this business. Most of the time you go
with your gut feelings and see how the dice roll. So I’ll
give my thumbs up to STI and Deja and would encourage all
established bands looking for bands to fill a night to seriously
consider those two.
We’ll my transformation to “nerdom” is
not going very well. I need to quit smoking before this next
batch a medicine. Went all Memorial weekend with just a half
of cig. Then on Tuesday I had 2 cigs and a few puffs from
Sexy Stacey’s cig. Wednesday the shit hit the fan at
the day job and I bought a pack. As of Friday night I still
have 3 left. I guess a pack in a week is better than 2 packs
a day.
I always heard Nicotine is very addictive, but have not known
the power until recently. I tell you all weekend my body and
head was feeling funny. I tried drinking lot’s of fluids,
juice, chewing packs of gum and even used Jager to counter
the effects. (Unlike beer, I don’t have an urge to smoke
when drinking the devils juice) Being my age and living thru
the 80’s, I had used many items that would be considered
‘addictive”. Never got hooked on any of it. In
fact I never even smoked until I met my ex wife. She was a
smoker and one thing led to another. Thus now 20 years later
I’m trying to kick the habit of smoking. If any of you
reading this have quit smoking, I’d appreciate any tips
you might have used to kick the cigs. I really want to quit
on my own before having to get sick.
I’d also like to know why the state, which received
billions of dollars in settlement from the tobacco companies,
doesn’t offer any financial assistance for those that
want to quit. Next time you’re in a drug store, look
at the prices of nicotine gum and patches. Maybe they don’t
want you to quit so they can continue to collect the tax off
of each pack purchased.
Well that’s all for now. The weather is getting hotter
so make sure when you go out for a cold one, go and see a
band and support our local music!!!!
