On My Mind

I'm still here!!!

OK this should be proof that I’m not dead. (yet) Thanks to all the concerned people that sent me emails wondering what’s up. This is the time of year my day job runs full throttle. 13 hour days during the week plus 6 or so hours on Saturday are the norm and do take a toll on my free time!!!! (I wonder if I could rent a Mexican to do my job?) Got about another month and things should be back to normal.

Speaking of back to normal, Twisted Tuesdays have fired up for the year. Our first show with The Gorgonites and Bo Bim was off the hook. Lot’s of rowdy people having a great time, while enjoying the music. Not many problems for the first show except for the guy that drank to much and puked all over at the end of the night. Like they say there’s a first time for everything. This is our 4th year for Twisted Tuesdays and I’ve never seen anything like that before.

Elysion Fields and Spinebelt played this week’s Twisted Tuesday show. I guess I can say it was the best show that not many people saw. Both bands put on a great set!!!! I always hear people say and have it repeated on the message board, the area needs more metal shows. Well people if you want them, then be sure to go to them. I was disappointed on the crowd turnout, but that’s the music business. Some shows are good and some are not so good with turnouts.

Cross my fingers the weather has been great so far for the Tuesday shows. So that can’t be blamed. Spread the word Twisted Tuesdays are back!!! I look forward to seeing the “regulars” back and sharing a couple beers while catching up on things. The Mint and Lotus Blue play next week, April 18th, so there should be some nice eye candy walking around. For more Twisted Tuesday info click here. Be sure to check out The Mint on our Featured MP3 section.

Saw a band called Grae last Thursday night at Dragonfly (Cranked Up Thursdays) Very impressed. Heavy stuff but it was almost like a jam metal band if you could image such music. Wish I could have seen the whole set but had to leave early. (fuckin day job)

EBastard is excited about an ALL AGE event happening April 20th at The Loft. National metal power, High on Fire (Relapse Records) is coming to York. The show also features Goatwhore, Watch them Die, Ninetail and Consider the Ashes. Both EBastard and Frank Phobia say High on Fire is “THE” band to see play live. I’ll take their word for it, since every time Frank says a band is awesome, it pans out to be true. The Loft is a small room so be sure to get your advance tickets by clicking here.

Before I forget a new concert series started this month called “Thursday After Work” held at Gullifty’s. Doors open at 5pm for this two band show. Grantham Road is this months featured band with others rotating each week. So if you have a “normal” job, head over to Gullifty’s after work on Thursday Night to catch a show or two. Click here for the show schedules.

Me and my ‘ho took a break and headed over to Angelina’s at the beginning of April to check out Adrian Blitzer. Great food (chicken cheese steaks), cold beers and some pool before the show. (Dan if you read this the pool tables say .50, but it takes $1.00 to play. WTF!!! After 2 pitchers it’s hard to see the extra punch outs for the other 2 quarters.) Opening the night was Knotfal. (spelling?) I guess a nice way of saying anything was they were “knot” for me. Feedback issues, one tone lead vocalist and a few other things made 45 minutes seem like 2 hours, if ya know what I mean. I know they haven’t done many shows together, so perhaps with some practice they will improve.

Next up was Adrian Blitzer with the new line up. The twins and Chad are gone, replaced by a new bass player and the return of Kevin on guitar. AB was playing “lighter” cover songs this night. Perhaps because of the venue or maybe because Andy is turning into a pansy. I’m sure it was because of the venue, plus I didn’t see the 2nd set which probably had the heavier stuff mixed in. I personally like when Blitzer plays the harder stuff. They do it better than most in the area. In fact the first time I saw AB, way back in the day at Gullifty’s, that’s what impressed me about them. AB had a decent set though. For only playing less than a handful shows, with the new line up before this night, the guys are back and I have no doubt will be better than ever. Something else that caught my attention with AB was Kevin’s background vocal ability. I never really took note of that before when he was in the band, but this night I did. Surprisingly good background vocals are lacking in most bands. It does add more depth to the songs and I’m not sure why most bands could give a shit about background vocals.

Well it’s getting late and I must hit the sack to prepare for another thrilling fuckin day at the day job. Keep checking back for the massive amount of updates that I’ll be adding to the site when time permits. Watch out in May as we start our assault on Central PA. I’ll give more details next time.

Until then get your asses out to Twisted Tuesday and help me drink lots of beers to drown my sorrows!!! Or to watch the Single Guy make some moves on the lonely girls!!! Seriously come out to hang and have a good time while enjoying some great local/regional music!!!!
