Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 15 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (http://www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (http://www.rocky99.com).

Thanks to our guests, Jonestown-based rockers Shift Seven (http://www.shiftseven.com/), for joining us via phone this week! We met the band members and learned their story, and heard insights about their music as we played tunes from Shift Seven’s latest CD, Love Lust. Along the way, we updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1993 song by State College’s Soul Gypsys from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed Borrowed Time’s This Old Dirt Road CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

MOUNTAIN ROAD – “Pennsylvania Channel Cats”

FELIX & THE HURRICANES – “Grow”

SHIFT SEVEN – “Around You”

NORMAN NARDINI – “I Seen Too Much”

SHIFT SEVEN – “To Hell with It”

TARRA LAYNE – “Beautiful Day”

SHIFT SEVEN – “Right Now”

HOUR TWO:

SOUTHSIDE STRAYS – “Out All Night”

CHUCK MASON & BLUE REALITY – “Can You Tell Me”

SHIFT SEVEN – “Jo”

BORROWED TIME – “And It Shows”

SHIFT SEVEN – “The Void”

SOUL GYPSYS – “Cabby” (1993, Local Music Flashback)

SHIFT SEVEN – “Golfing with Aliens”

CORELOK – “Over Again”

On our next show, we will again empty out the “Homegrown Rocker” mailboxes, and debut tunes from the recordings we have received from local and regional bands and artists in recent weeks! We will also update “Local Music News,” dig into the archive for another “Local Music Flashback,” step “Across State Lines” to hear music from a band or artist from outside of PA, and review Norman Nardini’s Bone A Fide CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” Emptying the “Homegrown Rocker” mailboxes means maximum local and regional music on the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

MAY 6 – RAGGEDY HOBO

MAY 13 – COVER SONG SPECIAL

MAY 20 – RICH EDMUNDSON

MAY 27 – MEMORIAL DAY SPECIAL

JUNE 3 – JEFF PITTINGER

JUNE 10 – RON GALLUCCI

JUNE 17 – FATHER’S DAY SPECIAL

JUNE 24 – SETH CONNER

In Local Music News…

Three-quarters of the line-up of popular former area rockers Stept On will reunite onstage for a special benefit concert in early May. Former Stept On guitarist Matt Day, bassist Adam Zimmer and drummer Jim Bagrosky will team up with singer Greg Locke for “Jams for Joel,” a benefit show for a 22-year-old battling cancer. The show will take place on Tuesday evening, May 1, at The Brewery in State College. Also performing at the benefit will be 5 Second Rule, featuring Greg Locke, Adam Zimmer, Matt Day and former Mindspine drummer Adam Rider; along with the bands Big Doc & the Shockers and Where The Sky Meets The Sea. The show will begin at 8:30 p.m., and donation at the door will be $7.

Guitarist Lee Stein has parted ways with local 80’s hair band rockers Sunset Strip.

Altoona-based acoustic trio Mr. Dasch & Harmonica Dave with The Professor have changed their name to a shorter handle; the group’s new name is The Backyard Rockers.

Pittsburgh-based singer and songwriter Tarra Layne, who recently performed at Punxsutawney’s annual Groundhog Day celebration, has just won an online contest and will get to open for national recording artists Gavin DeGraw and Vanessa Carlton. Through online voting, Tarra won the Origins Green Band Search, and will open for DeGraw and Carlton at the Origins Rocks Earth Month Concert, happening this Wednesday, April 18 at Webster Hall in New York City. That concert will be streamed live Wednesday night beginning at 8 p.m. on the website http://www.origins.com/liveconcert.
